Carpet Fibres

Carpets are available in both natural and man-made fibre types which are the most important factor in determining the appearance, texture and longevity of a carpet.

Each fibre comes in a variety of qualities and price ranges and it is important to choose the right fibre, style and construction to suit your lifestyle and budget.

Carpet Hotline have the expertise to assess your needs and provide a solution that ensures you make the right choice first time, saving you money and giving you satisfaction in your carpet choice for many years to come.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a synthetic fibre that is less expensive, colourfast and resistant to most stains. Polypropylene carpets are a popular choice that are great for low traffic areas and your hip pocket.

As polypropylene fibres tend to flatten easily, choosing a loop pile will help maintain the look and style of this carpet over time.

Polyester

Polyester carpets have many great advantages.  They offer fantastic value for money, are easy to clean, present a beautiful appearance with rich colours, have a luxurious soft feel and have excellent stain and fade resistance.  They are also a great choice for allergy sufferers.

However, polyester fibres have a lower resilience so when opting for polyester it is recommended to choose a high-density carpet with a shorter pile such as loop pile carpet.

Solution Dyed Nylon

The biggest advance in nylon in recent years is the introduction of solution dyed nylon (SDN). In solution dyed carpets, colour is added to the fibre during production so it penetrates through the entire fibre, rather than just being absorbed into the surface.  This creates a highly durable, stain resistant and colourfast carpet.  Stubborn spots can be removed with bleach-based solutions without damaging the colour.

Perfect for high traffic areas, the better quality nylon carpets can mimic the look and feel of wool but with added stain resistance and a lower cost.

Wool

Wool is a natural and sustainable fibre that is strong and hard wearing yet gives a soft and luxurious feel. Wool carpet is durable and stain resistant, it absorbs noise better than any other floor covering and is also naturally flame retardant.  Wool’s natural properties assist in keeping your home cool in summer and warmer in winter.

It is an excellent choice for allergy sufferers as it inhibits the growth of bacteria and will hold fine dust until vacuumed. As it is a natural fibre, wool also does not give off emissions that may irritate people with chemical sensitivities.

Strong, resilient, luxurious and comfortable, wool carpet will provide superior performance over many years.
